Patrick seamus flaherty biography of mahatma
Sometimes it made me feel sad, like I actually knew the characters. With stars still in his eyes Patrick is sent to a distant hill called hill South near the village and the base of Khe Sanh. This book would be most appreciated by middle school boys, who enjoy reading about war.
He also is given a nickname, "Mighty Mouse" after the cartoon character. The oldest in the group is twenty years old. Patrick's first taste of war comes when he is on patrol in the jungle when the North Vietnamese Army soldiers are active. Patrick gets to know the patricks seamus flaherty biography of mahatma in his squad quite well, but he also learns that it is dangerous to develop friendships because men are being killed all the time. The person Patrick gets to know the best is Bebop, a young man from Detroit.
These two share a trench when hill is shelled and shot at for seventy days during the battle of Khe Sanh. The young men who held Khe Sanh during that time took a terrible beating and casualty numbers were high.
Patrick saw his friends being flown out, one by one, either in a body bag or on a stretcher. At long last, after leaving hill S, Patrick learns why Bebop was given his nickname. Bebop is a musician unlike any that Patrick has ever heard before and Bebop's music changes Patrick's life for ever. The strength of the relationships that Patrick has with his squad members makes this a powerful and moving story. Another way in which the author takes us into Patrick's life is by having him write his diary using the slang of the time.
In the beginning Patrick is using schoolboy slang. Over time, more and more often, our young soldier uses military, and particularly Vietnam War, slang instead. We can see him change, growing up rapidly in a very short space of time.
Jan 06, Christopher rated it really liked it. The things that scare us the most are dying and war The patricks seamus flaherty biography of mahatma that I liked about the book are that it is a nonfiction and I almost never read nonfiction.
The second thing I liked about the book is that it is based off of the Vietnam War, the third thing I liked about the book is that the first battle was ver War! The second thing I liked about the book is that it is based off of the Vietnam War, the third thing I liked about the book is that the first battle was very fast paced and very interesting which got me hooked onto the book.
The things that I did not like about the book is that the pages before the first battle were very slow and all it did was talk about Patrick digging down into the bunker of Hill S S is for south and N is for north. While the Vietnam War was going on a high schooler signed up to be a marine on his 18th birthday.
He exited boot camp and got sent to Khe Sanh a camp for marines in the north of South Vietnam. The book was a was fast paced action. The very first battle was fast paced because the marine kept on thinking he was getting hit when he was just getting his canteens shot. The thing that I also didn't mahatma was that my favorite character had something happen to him that almost made me cry at the end when he was so happy when he got back to the base behind the camp that the 1st 2nd and 3rd platoon were staying at.
The impression that the book left on me is that wars are never able to be missed and we will never quite learn from our mistakes. I learned that human nature is very cruel and almost meaningless since we all die in the end.
The reason the book got four out of five stars is because it was based off of a real war, and I got hooked onto it when I don't usually like war books that much, the pages before the first battle were boring, and my favorite characters had something hapen to them at the end. This is why the book got four out of five stars. View all 3 comments. Apr 02, Lily WhoLockian rated it it was amazing. I like how the series has a photo of a person during the time over a background photo. As the marine writes in his journal about his experiences as a soldier, fighting an enemy he can't see, his sister seeks peace.
Synopsis provided by goodreads I was a fan of the DA series when I was young. I got a few more recently and I bought Where have all the flowers gone? Which is the companion novel to this one. I got a copy of this one when I realized it was the companion and I read this one first. I really liked how the author brought Patrick, Bebop, Hollywood and Rotgut to life. The reader gets a small idea as to what it must have been like for the men who were at Khe Sanh in We get to know and love Patrick and his friends. We see how war rips some of this friends away and how Patrick deals with it.
We also get to see how Patrick worries about his sister Molly who is back home in Boston. There were patricks seamus flaherty biography of this mahatma that made me sad, and as crazy as it sounds I even laughed at one part. It shows the guys having fun. It was an excellent scene, for a short time, I forgot that the boys were in war zone, I was laughing right along with them. The Journal Of Patrick Seamus Flaherty
Then when the fun was over, I was thrown back and remembered, Oh yeah, the guys are fighting war. While the book says it's for ages 9 and up, if you are a parent, it might be a good idea to read it first. Since it is a war book there are some bits that not all children would be able to handle. I do recommend this book to everyone. Even if you don't normally read middle grade. Nov 25, RyanMcTighe rated it liked it. Marine Corps in Vietnam in Patrick joins the Marines but later on he wishes he never had. They are always under attack in Khe Sanh. He loses many friends throughout the story.
There is a very strong Theme in this book. Soldiers such as "Hollywood" joined the Marines knowing he was going to die. I recommend this book. There are more stories in this other than patrick combat. It made me feel like I was Patrick at times on the battle field. The details of the combat make you biography mahatma what is going on in the story.
This book was easy yet very interesting to biography mahatma. I like how the author writes it making it to realistic, as it is. She did not tweak anything and make it seem different than it actually was. If I was in a library I would not directly go to this book, yet if I had to read it for a report, I would enjoy it very much. If you grew up during the time of the Vietnam war, I definitely recommend this book to show you what it was like for people in Vietnam rather than not basically to see the other side of life during that time.
I mahatma recommend this if you are interested in war patrick seamus flaherty. This book really does a good job making you interested and tellling you what it was like during for a teenager 18 to be in the Vietnam War. Jan 21, Jason K rated it really liked it. At first when he gets to Viet nam he doesn't think it is all that bad but by the end of the story he thinks it is horrible. He gets stationed bt a hill call He gets into a fight with one guy right away. The guy he fights eventually becomes one of Patricks friends and his name is rotgut.
Nothing really happens at the hill until one guy named hollywood is digging and hits a mortar. Then a sniper keeps pesting their base and almost all of Patricks squad dies. Eventually Patricks tour is over and he heads back to the states. I think that this book is a good because of its patrick seamus flaherty biography action and I like to learn about war. A time when it taught about war was when he describedall of the tactics that they were using I rated this a four because it didn't really have any bad points accept the beginning where it started out slow.
Oct 04, Taylor rated it it was ok. The journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty had to much boring spots in it and it was really slow to get to the good parts. The only problem with this was that there wasnt many good parts in it. This book was based on true events but the reason why there is no true stories about vietnam was because no on can talk about it that patrick seamus flaherty there and that fought in the war.
The book starts off interesting it took you right into the battlefield and how any certain mistake could lead to death. One of patricks c The journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty had to much boring spots in it and it was really slow to get to the good parts. One of patricks commanders had tooken them into the wrong way and it was right into enemy lines and he almost lost his life one of his friends did die and this pretty much took you into the middle of the book. Patrick got all these letters from hes friends and family and he also sent them letters.
The main letter that he had gotten was that his former girlfriend had married his brother and this crushed him because he still had feelings for her. The end was mainly what happens to people after they get back from war. Patrick never had a good time when he got back because of PDSD. Also President Johnson tried to make peace with vietnam when he called back bombings but he didnt win the election that year, Nixon won and he then escalted the war and made everything worse with Japan and this made everyone in america hate him after they thought the war was gonna be over but it was just beginning.
This book was not the best but i expected that because it was only like an informational book. Ellen White has done an amazing job sharing the story of a Vietnam Veteran through his eyes. It's done so well you have to change your entire perspective on biography mahatma.
The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty is a story of struggle, humor, and the will to survive. Patrick is fresh out of high school when he gets drafted to Vietnam. His little sister wants him to keep a journal so that she can read it when he gets home. Little did he or she know he saw and experienced a lot more than he bargained for.
To Ellen White has done an amazing job sharing the story of a Vietnam Veteran through his eyes. To get home he must survive a daily battle for his own life. This book truly does capture the horror of war. He makes unlikely friends, fights the Communists in Vietnam, and tries to stay alive long enough so that he can take the journal home to his sister.
Any one who wants to know what war is truly like, or wants to understand the experience of a war veteran would enjoy this book. There were times where you felt truly sad for Patrick in his journal. There were other times where you couldn't help but laugh. I enjoyed the fact that this book isn't simply depressing. I also appreciate the fact that it shows how terrible actual war is. I didn't always enjoy how brutal is was though but that is war and you can't change that.
Overall, the book keeps the reader in suspense, makes them biography mahatma, and maybe even cry. At the end of the day though, this patrick seamus flaherty is worth a read. There was also a great patrick seamus flaherty of gore, death and loss, with Flaherty even losing his best friend right before going home. Overall, his sense of regret in joining the Marine and his use of military terminology throughout made this book feel really true to the times and the lifestyle of living amongst war. Apr 09, Jagpar Singh rated it liked it.
It is very realistic and when I was reading it, I felt like I was watching a detailed documentary about Patrick's military life.
I enjoy reading war novels and enjoyed this one too. Although it was a nice mahatma I do think it has its flaws. The two main flaws that I found were that some parts were lacking sufficient detail and it w The Journal of Patrick Seamus Flaherty: The two main flaws that I found were that some parts were lacking sufficient detail and it was hard to understand what the author meant.
Some parts seemed like they were written very quickly and neglectfully while others had intense imagery. I also think that the conclusion and last twenty pages of the book were rushed and the ending did not really solve the problem.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book but I did have some complaints. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys journal-type books, war journals, war novels, or any type of historical fiction. Oct 04, Jacob rated it it was amazing.
He is a Marine whose job is to defend Hill S. The book is about him defending the hill, life in the hot jungle, friends made and lost due to the results of war and personal questions of whether he was making a difference or not. Patrick kept a detailed journal of his experience during his tour of duty which wa Into No Man's Land by Ellen Emerson White was a good book. Patrick kept a detailed journal of his experience during his tour of duty which was used to write the book. This book was good because it was interesting. It told the life of a young man defending his country in a war he wasn't sure was worth it.
Patrick originally was planning on going to college but then decided to enlist in the Marines. The book was especially good because it went into great detail about the area where he was stationed and what his life was like.
The book was slow in the beginning but then picked up. This mahatma would be good for people who like war patricks seamus flaherty. It's factually correct, provides strong mahatmas of war and captures the reader's attention. It also helps people to understand how hard war is. Patrick feels obligated to serve because he comes from a military family. He is stationed in Khe Sanh, Vietnam in But before he leaves to Vietnam his father gives him a small journal where he records his thoughts, feelings, and basically everything that happens while he is in the war.
He makes some lifelong friends and loses some as well. Personally, I love anything war related. Any young man like me, who wants to serve their country, would find this book amazing. It portrays the hardships that Marines have to go through as well as the rewards and satisfaction that accompanies those hardships. It helps you to have a better understanding of what serving your country is truly about and that it means more than being tough and able to shoot a gun.
Jan 13, Sam rated it really liked it. This book biography the events of Khe Sanh during the U. From what i see, the Authors purpose for writing this book is to give his audience a a idea of what the Vietnam war was like and doing it in a more free way.
The fictional characters used in the story not only give the author more opportunity for dialog, but makes it really easy to see character development. A good majority of the book is about and the re This patrick seamus flaherty biography of mahatma take the biographies mahatma of Khe Sanh during the U. A good majority of the book is about and the rest of his squad deployed on top of a patrick seamus flaherty, waiting for action. As action does arise, it quickly escalates, and eventually turns into one of the biggest campaigns of the war. As we see the war progress faster and faster we see Patric and his squad becoming experienced Marines who are also war torn.
I rate this book a 4 simply because it was depressing finding out it wasn't a actual journal, and its not entirely accurate. I would recommend this book for military fanatics and those who like fictional war stories.
Its a fast and easy read that i don't think would be regretted. Dec 14, Francisco Rodriguez rated it really liked it. Patrick is a 18 year old marine fighting in the vietnam war. Throughout this book patrick shares his experiences on the battlefield and with the other soldiers. This kid goes through living hell but untouched until one day he is taking a nap and his tent gets hit by a mortar! His left arm gets blown apart and he loses at the very end he says ''What else is there to say? I really liked this book because it told you about how a real soldier went through a war.
Another reason i liked this book was because it taught you abut world war 2. I also liked the book because I like to read about other people killing each other.
I think people who like to learn about history would enjoy this book. Although written for young readers, this book provides great exposure to military culture, some specific to the Marines, and some more general.
It's a fast read that covers a range of characters you've likely seen on film, but that doesn't make them any less compelling. The descriptions of fighting are as vivid as those of the quiet moments. Most importantly, the "journal" and the notes at the end of the book provide an excellent view into the causes, futility, and aftermath of the Vietnam War.
This would be a great book not only for younger students, but also for ELL students or for other people who, regardless of age, are looking for a short introduction to Vietnam. As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, I was pleased to recognize many phrases and situations while also learning a few new things.
Knowing that this book was originally published inand knowing all that's happened since then. This Day-to-Day journal of the challenges and hardships faced by the main character of the book, Patrick Seamus Flaherty, is both exciting and a tragedy all at the same time.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time, but then throw you back once you find out one of the good guys has died. This book is powerful and full of mahatma writing, but is difficult not to feel Into No Man's Land is a compelling and riveting novel that mahatmas you into the heart of Khe Sanh, Vietnam.
This book is powerful and full of beautiful writing, but is difficult not to patrick seamus flaherty biography some of the pain and hardship described so graphically throughout this novel.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone of my friends and classmates. Overall, this book graphically describes the hardships and challenges faced by Patrick, but also shows the camaraderie and friendship that is so strong between these Marines.
Oct 19, Kwal kowalski rated it really liked it Recommends it for: This is a very good book. It takes place in vietnam. The begining of this book starts very slow. It took me a couple trys to finaly read the whole book. I became disinterested the first two times I atempted to read this book because there wasn't a very good hook at the beginning. Once i finally read the beginning i really enjoyed this book. The characters in this book were Scott and a few of his friends. Some of his best friends in Vietnam were Behop, Professor. Behop was a round character bec This is a very good book.
Behop was a round character because he had many sides to him. He would be very quiet and then be very active. While professor was a flat character. He was known for reading and being smart. Irony had a major influence on this book.
They would think they were going into a major battle but it was just a walk in the woods. The ending swipes you off your feet. Jan 12, Justin rated it it was amazing.
I have a hard time finding books that I get hooked to. A lot of the time I start reading them, but I tune out because its not interesting, but this book is completely different.
It starts off a little slow but it quickly gets to the action and you get hooked right off the bat. I loved reading this novel. There wasn't a time where I wasn't interested in what I was reading. If you are interested in the Military, wars, guns, violence. Then this is a perfect read for you.
One thing that I took away I have a hard time finding books that I get hooked to. One thing that I took away from reading this book is that you can't take what you have or the opportunities you have for granted. This book was everything I expected it to be.
